Missions is telling the story of Jesus to others, wherever they are. Being on mission is mandated from Jesus. Matthew 28:19-20 says: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Christ wanted His followers to go into the entire world to share the Good News about Him. When we think of missionaries, one of the first true examples in the Bible is Paul. Paul was willing to go and tell the Gentiles all about His Savior, Jesus Christ. He asked for the early church to pray for him and the other workers to faithfully share the gospel. He also asked them to give sacrificially.
Our church strives to be on mission for God. The third part of our church’s mission statement is Reaching Out. We strive to reach out to others. We do so in many different ways and in many different areas. We are actively involved with the Fern Creek / Highview United Ministries as well as our own Ministry and Missions Center. We assist by providing day to day needs through both of these ministries. Not only do we serve in our own area, but we also support ministries throughout our state, nation, and world.
Our church regularly takes mission trips to Honduras in partnership with Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International. As we share the gospel of Jesus Christ, we also seek to meet medical needs and other physical needs.
An organization in our church that is the backbone for missions is Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU). The women of WMU have 6 core values:
